NEWS JUNE 2009
After a fantastic week at the end of May the early prognosis for June seems to be more of the same with a few cooler interludes. Our salad leaves have done well and we are picking them daily, you may also find them in a few local pubs. You'll soon know as they are a bit more exotic than the usual bagged stuff from the wholesalers, the Rocket in particular has a kick. Sotherton Farm Beef is proving popular with their steaks and burgers being a BBQ staple. This is together with sausages from Grangeworth and Lane Farm and lamb and chicken kebabs from Mr Allard. The local asparagus will finish after the first week in June but we now have wonderful sweet local new potatoes. Hopefully we will soon be getting cooked lobsters from Orford (phone to check availability). The Alpacas returned home to Long Melford for a couple of weeks which gave the paddock time to recover and they came back having had a serious haircut. They now look like pipe cleaners!! Further ahead on Sunday July 19th the local branch of the TVR Car Club will meet at the shop before commencing a treasure hunt at about 11.30. They hope to finish at about 1.30 at the Ufford White Lion. The noise these beasties make has to be heard to be believed.

Based in the picturesque village of Lower Ufford in the Deben Valley close to the Suffolk Heritage Coast The Ufford Produce and Provision Company is a Village Store and Post Office with a difference. With the owners aim of reducing Food Miles it offers the Customer the experience of visiting a Farmers Market every day of the week. Based in a converted barn in Loudham Lane in Lower Ufford the company was set up in December 2006 after the previous Post Office closed after 162 years.

As well as fresh produce from surrounding farms all meat products are sourced from suppliers who raise and butcher their animals within a 30 mile radius of the shop. Traceability is the key and the company's owner has visited all his suppliers and is happy to talk to customers about the source of both the meat and produce in the shop. The shop also offers chef-prepared ready meals from award winning local chefs and hand made fishcakes.

Being less than 5 minutes from the A12 the shop offers a useful stocking up point for weekend visitors to Suffolk or for people on their way to a holiday cottage.
