NEWS FOR JULY AND AUGUST
t looks like it's going to be a fantastic summer again this year in Suffolk. In fact we've had such a dry start already to the summer that the Alpacas have had to move to a friends water meadow elsewhere in the village. The occasional shower is helping our paddock to recover but it may be some time before the boys return (they've ALPACADED THEIR BAGS you could say). It's BBQ time and we are stocking fantastic Rump and Sirloin steaks from Sotherton (they're so tender even the worst BBQ'er can't ruin them!) Mr Allards are now making up chicken kebabs with a Thai marinade which has a lovely coconut and lemongrass flavour. Burgers from Allard's are gluten free as are Grangeworth's Pork and Leek free range sausages. As well as Smoked and Sweetcured free range ham, Harvest Kitchen are now producing a Waveney Valley aromatic Ham, as well as Salt Beef with a peppered crust.(Suffolk Pastrami?) The Artisan Smokehouse is a new name we will be stocking and at a tasting their Smoked Beef Fillet and Smoked Sirloin got very positive comments from our customers. If you're holidaying at the Orchard Campsite in Wickham Market then the van will visit every morning at about 8 from 26th July to 29th August. The Cake Shop Croissant proves very popular and gives a holiday a continental feel.

Based in the picturesque village of Lower Ufford in the Deben Valley close to the Suffolk Heritage Coast The Ufford Produce and Provision Company is a Village Store and Post Office with a difference. With the owners aim of reducing Food Miles it offers the Customer the experience of visiting a Farmers Market every day of the week. Based in a converted barn in Loudham Lane in Lower Ufford the company was set up in December 2006 after the previous Post Office closed after 162 years.

As well as fresh produce from surrounding farms all meat products are sourced from suppliers who raise and butcher their animals within a 30 mile radius of the shop. Traceability is the key and the company's owner has visited all his suppliers and is happy to talk to customers about the source of both the meat and produce in the shop. The shop also offers chef-prepared ready meals from award winning local chefs and hand made fishcakes.

Being less than 5 minutes from the A12 the shop offers a useful stocking up point for weekend visitors to Suffolk or for people on their way to a holiday cottage.
